About Dr. David Parry, the gallery's curator
Dr. David Parry is a soil scientists and remote sensing expert and has spent the last 25 years working on urban and rural development projects in Indonesia, the home of the original Spice Islands. His interest in collecting antique maps seemed to follow naturally from using a variety of modern and not-so-modern topographic and thematic maps in the course of his work. In the late 1980s and early 90s, however, there were few maps of the region that could be accessed easily, and this inspired him to write "The Cartography of The East Indian Islands". Dr Parry lives in Jakarta, Indonesia with his wife, Sonja, and their four dogs and numerous cats.
