Antique Map Batavia by Brockhaus. A mid 19th century German plan of Batavia with insert of West Java. Lithograph published by F.A .Brockhaus in Leipzig for Brockhaus’s Konversations-Lexicon a German encyclopedia that was expanded beyond that of earlier publications, in an effort to become comprehensive – it included geography, history, and biography. Friedrich Arnold Brockhaus (1772–1823) bought the publication rights in 1808.
