Antique map of Java by Bellin titled ‘Nouvelle Carte De L’Isle de Java… Madura’. Antique map of Asia, Java and Madura Indonesia, with a decorative cartouche and compass rose by the mapmaker Bellin 1754. The map is copperplate engraved with hand coloring and derived from Prevost Histoire generale des voyages, engraved by Jakob van Schley.

Jacques Nicolas Bellin (1703 – 21 March 1772) was born in Paris. He was hydrographer of France’s hydrographic office, member of the Académie de Marine and of the Royal Society of London.
Over a 50 year career, he produced a large number of maps of particular interest to the Ministère de la Marine.
