Antique print of Buitenzorg titled ‘A distant view of Buitenzorg, the residence of the Governor of Java, Gunong Gidi and the River Chidami’. Aquatint of Buitenzorg so named during the colonial period (Dutch meaning “Without worries”.) and served as the summer residence of the Governor-General of the Dutch East Indies. Now the city of Bodor, Java. This print orginates from ‘Memoir of the life and public services of Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles : particularly in the government of Java (..)’.

Sir Thomas Stamford Bingley Raffles, FRS (6 July 1781 – 5 July 1826) was a British statesman, Lieutenant-Governor of the Dutch East Indies (1811–1816) and Lieutenant-Governor of Bencoolen (1818–1824), best known for his founding of Singapore and the British Malaya.
