CARTA SOERA de Nigrata Ao:  1686. N.de Graaf  Van Egmont

An early 18th century black and white map of the town of Carta Soura, also known as Kartosuro and Karta Soera de Nigrat that was located in the interior of central Java and was the headquarters of the Susuhunan, the suzerain of the Mataram region. The map shows dwellings, fields and land-use. The map was published in 1706 by Charles Osmont in Amsterdam but the sources for the map date back to earlier publications by Jacques Desbordes who, in turn obtained data from the Histoire de la conquete des Isles Moluques par les Espangnols par les Portugais & par les Hollandois by Leonardo de Argensola Bartolome (1562-1631).
