Nouvelle Carte De L’Isle de Java… Madura – Bellin 1754

Antique map of Asia, Java and Madura Indonesia, with an decorative cartouche and compass rose by the mapmaker Bellin 1754. The map is copperplate engraved with hand coloring and derived from Prevost Histoire generale des voyages, engraved by Jakob van Schley.

Jacques Nicolas Bellin (1703 – 21 March 1772) was born in Paris. He was hydrographer of France’s hydrographic office, member of the Académie de Marine and of the Royal Society of London.
Over a 50 year career, he produced a large number of maps of particular interest to the Ministère de la Marine.

KAART VAN JAVA ( Map of Java ) A late 19th century Dutch map of Java in three sheets from the "Atlas der Nederlandsche Bezittingen in Oost-Indie" ( Atlas of the Dutch Possessions in the East Indies ), published by the Ministry of Colonies between 1883 and 1885. This atlas was the most detailed and largest atlas of Indonesia, the former Dutch Indies, ever made and was commissioned by the Dutch Ministry of Colonies.
