A rare mid-16th century black and white copper engraving of Sumatra Island and an Asian elephant and mahout with modern outline colour by the German cartographer Sebastian Münster from the 1544 edition of the Cosmographia;

Fair condition; thin paper; paper browning and two 6 mm wormholes in margins; measures 310 x 363.
