Description
One of Japanese ukiyo-e woodblock prints made in mid-19th century showing a Daijo (prologue or opening scene) of a Chûshingura play, which the term is used for any theatrical play based on a historical events involving the forty-seven rōnin and their mission to avenge the death of their master, Asano Naganori. This print was made by Japanese woodblock print artist, Utagawa Hiroshige II (1826-1869). He was the successor and student of the famous ukiyo-e artist Hiroshige (1797-1858), whose considered as the last great master of that tradition in the Edo period.
