Description: Antique print, titled: ‘Prospect von der Bastion Gelderland ausserhalb der Stadt Batavia, wie solche nach der Natur gege die aussern portugiesischen Kirche und dem blauen Berg zu, gezeichnet worden von Iohann Wolffgang Heyd / Vue de la bastion de gelderland hors de la ville Batavie, desine vers de l’Eglise portugoise et du Montagne bleu par Jean Wolfgang Heyd.’ View of the Portuguese non-denominational church and environs as seen from the Gelderland bastion near Batavia, Indonesia. This is an optical print, also called ‘vue optique’ or ‘vue d’optique’, which were made to be viewed through a Zograscope, or other devices of convex lens and mirrors, all of which produced an optical illusion of depth. Source unknown, to be determined.

  • Condition: Good, given age. Some spots, mainly in the margins. Repaired tear bottom left barely in image area. Damp stain bottom right corner. A few small soft creases. Margin edges reinforced on the rear. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
